Looks like we’ve finally made it to March, a typically busier time of the ski season for Steamboat Springs. An influx of families & guests will soon be vacationing in our glorious town for what should continue to be great ski conditions and a community welcoming them with open arms.
The latest lodging barometer, a statistic that predicts and reports the overall occupancy levels of Steamboat nightly rentals, predicts Steamboat to be 75% booked this weekend. That percentage correlates to approximately 11,500 guests and a much needed boost to our local economy.
Restaurants, retail stores and of course the ski resort are thrilled about the influx of tourists. Though the current occupancy numbers still lag this same Saturday of 2008 by 900 people, there’s a positive upward trend in bookings right now.
March is the month that many college and family spring breaks from classes occur so the outlook for strong booking numbers is good. The Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation will also play host the NASTAR National Championships in late March again, which always attracts a large crowd to give a nice shot in the arm to many local businesses. The other piece of good news is that Easter once again falls in early April, making it feasible for many families to travel to Steamboat for closing weekend.
Property showing activity for real estate has remained quite high. Our showing activity was actually higher in January 2009 than it was in January 2008 and February showings remained strong. Property sales are still lagging a bit, but the increased traffic of potential buyers over the next month presents an opportune time to showcase the very best that Steamboat has to offer.
