Our 5 Favorite Fall Activities in Steamboat Springs, Colorado

As Steamboat Springs welcomes a vibrant canvas of gold, crimson, and amber, our charming town offers a variety of activities to enjoy the crisp air and nature’s beauty. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, here are our five favorite things to do in Steamboat this season.

Visit Fish Creek Falls

One of Steamboat’s most iconic landmarks, Fish Creek Falls, is a sight to behold any time of year, but it’s particularly enchanting in the fall. A sea of autumn colors will surround the 283-foot waterfall cascades. A short, easy hike takes you to the base of the falls. For those looking for a more challenging adventure, continue on the trail to the Upper Falls, where the views are even more spectacular.

Soak at the Strawberry Park Hot Springs

Soak in the natural hot springs surrounded by towering pine trees. As you unwind in the mineral-rich waters, the vibrant fall colors reflected in the water add a touch of magic to the experience. Whether you visit during the day or under the starry night sky, this is a hidden gem just a short drive from town. Make a reservation.

Bike or Hike the Beautiful Trails in Steamboat

Steamboat Springs is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts, and fall is the ideal time to hit the trails. Two of our favorite trails for leaf-peeping are the Flash of Gold Trail and the Fiddlehead Trail. The Flash of Gold Trail is aptly named as it takes you through a forest of aspens that turn a brilliant gold in the fall. The Fiddlehead Trail is a flatter trail for more beginner bikers and hikers and has equally breathtaking views, with vibrant leaves creating a colorful canopy overhead. Whether you prefer hiking or mountain biking, these trails provide the perfect backdrop for experiencing the beauty of fall in Steamboat.

Attend OctoberWest Festival

The OctoberWest craft beer festival on September 7th, is the ultimate tribute to the Fall season. This annual festival is a lively mix of craft beer tastings, live music, and delicious food. Held at the base of the Steamboat Ski Resort, OctoberWest is where locals and visitors come together to enjoy the start of autumn in the mountains. The event features a wide selection of craft brews from local and regional breweries, making it a beer lover’s paradise.

Fly Fishing in the Yampa River

Fall is one of the best times of the year for fly fishing in the Yampa River. The cooler temperatures bring out the trout, making for an excellent day on the water. The Yampa River, which winds through the heart of Steamboat Springs, offers a serene setting for anglers of all levels. The peaceful flow of the river, combined with the golden hues of fall, creates an idyllic fishing experience.

Steamboat is a popular hotspot in the summer and winter months, but our locals know there is true magic during our Fall season. So pack your bags, embrace the crisp autumn air, and be ready to adventure among the vibrant fall colors!
